Managing self/Managing others (2 days)
Up to 10 delegates
A ‘foundation course’ for managers and the level at which it is run, depends on the level of the delegates. With some pre-course work – it is practically based, highly participative and fun.
Outcomes:
- Introduce delegates to the basic principles of managing oneself and others
- Review of current time usage and strategies form improvement
- Understand the principles of delegation and its importance in developing and motivating a team
- See the barriers to effective communication and how to overcome these
- Be able to devise effective strategies to take back to the workplace, in order to maintain effective management controls
Briefly the course comprises:
Day 1
- Introductions/setting objectives
- Core Skills of Management – Planning, Organising, Delegation, Communication, Motivation, Control
- Reviewing current time usage and issues
- Putting first things first – using Stephen Covey’s Time Management Matrix
- Managing time by ‘managing’ your brain
- Strategies for planning, dealing with incoming work and getting projects moving
Day 2
- Principles of delegation and what can/cannot be delegated
- Communication – looking at verbal and non-verbal communication
- Listening actively to help self and others to think well
- Motivation – why do people need it, what’s different when they are?
- Practical measures to improve motivation back at work
- Being in ‘Control’ – what does it mean
- Giving and receiving feedback
- Action Planning
