What Existing Customers Say:
Florence and I worked closely to design a bespoke Leadership course for our management population. This was an area that we recognised needed investment and Florence was so helpful in helping us to pinpoint the areas of focus. The course was designed not just to ‘fix problems’ but to get under the skin of issues to help our managers think differently, approach things in new ways and really evolve as leaders. The feedback from the delegates has been great to hear and we are seeing new and valuable skills, such as coaching, being put into practice throughout the organisation which is having a transformative impact on how we do business.

“Best non-technical course I have ever been on”.
Well structured, applicable to everyday role, applicable to current teams…..Feedback now readily given amongst the team. Team members more open to receiving feedback, as well as the general improvement of the structure of the feedback given as well. We even have an acronym for FLORENCE in our management meetings:
“First Listen Or Respect Everyone Needs a Change to Engage”
You’re definitely a verb as well, also called “having a Florence moment” as well!

Florence’s seemingly effortless presenting/facilitating style makes all of her courses a joy. The ease with which she guides us (the students) through the various theories and practices is awe inspiring. Attending any of her courses has many benefits for me not least the learning that you take in the subject matter as it also includes the opportunity to learn, experience and model her own facilitating style. One course attendee on this course referred to us taking a little part of Florence away with us.
Jim Maguire Jim Maguire Associates Ltd
Florence has a real sense of ease and passion in the way she delivers the sessions. Her knowledge is unsurpassable and she challenges and provokes thinking in a way that engages rather than shuts down, which I have experienced of other people’s courses
Karleen Wood Baxi Heating UK Ltd Human Resources
The programme is excellent. It enables you to grow as a person and in NLP Mastery. Florence runs a tight ship in terms of learning and practice ensuring learned practice is of a professional standard.

Listening, Pausing, Watching Things Grow
/by flomaddencoGrow
By Jim Maguire, Leadership Coach, Trainer, NLP Master Practitioner and Mediator.
In previous blogs on my website I have spoken about listening, pausing and watching things grow and as we enter week 10 of lockdown it feels like I’ve done an awful lot of all three.
For instance, in the last couple of months, Zoom has grown from being an ice lolly from childhood, to an online platform where we can all video chat, attend webinars (and deliver them). The new normal of working from home means the days merge, weekends and evening are now just as productive as any other time. Embracing and growing into the flexibility of working when we get the inspiration has become second nature.
The new way of working has had its challenges and amazing opportunities. Daily exercise has provided much needed routine especially as the commute is shorter than it has ever been. My daily walk has replaced a lunchtime coffee shop ponder and provided me with the time and space to pause, make plans and look for new opportunities.
On one walk I was thinking about growth and growing as I passed a Damson Tree in blossom. Over the weeks I noticed a change and each time I’d gone by the tree had grown and transformed just a little. The tree’s initial job to inspire and attract the best, most talented workers to pollinate the flowers is transforming. The coming transformation will see the fruit grow and hopefully thrive. This is when, with help from a tree surgeon, a tree will maintain this growth. A great Tree Surgeon will work with the tree providing the right conditions, nutrients, light and shade for them to develop and grow. This in turn enables the tree to create an environment for the fruit to develop. After a short period of time some of the fruit will have been picked and will go on to produce great trees themselves. Other fruit will stay around the tree and help it to be more resilient for the future.
I am wondering can we look at a leader and a coach in the same way as we look at the tree and tree surgeon? Read this again, I’ve only changed a few words.
The Leaders initial job to inspire and attract the best, most talented workers to pollinate the company, is transforming. The coming phase will see the business grow and thrive. This is when, with help from a Coach, a successful Leader will maintain this growth. A great Coach will work with the Leader providing the right conditions, nutrients, light and shade for them to develop and grow. This in turn enables the Leader to create an environment for the staff to develop and the business to thrive. After a short period of time some of the staff will have been picked and will go on to be great Leaders themselves. Other staff will stay around the Leader and help the business to be more resilient for the future.

Gratitude …. The Gift That Keeps On Giving!
/by flomaddencoIn this season of giving and receiving good manners are important …but keeping up the habit of gratitude is essential for our health!
People saying ‘thank you’ when they receive a gift or a kindness has long been an obsession of mine – so the deeper importance of gratitude was a particular interest to me. Coincidently, as I started to write this article a few things happened – I think as a nudge from the Universe!
The first was a Facebook post from Mindfulness Ireland suggesting if we spend 2 minutes a day for 21 days scanning for what we are grateful for, we can retrain our brain to be optimistic. Then out of the blue in the post I received a storybook ‘Giraffe’s Can’t Dance’ from a client and friend Alannah Britz. Inside she wrote a moving message of gratitude for the work we have done together and how it has changed her as a trainer and as a person…….discovering she can ‘truly dance’ ! I was overwhelmed by her thoughtfulness.
There is more though – this focus on gratitude is particularly important for me at this time of year for another reason. Three years ago in the space of 10 days I lost my darling brother Charlie and my great-nephew and godson Rory, and almost a year later my sister Colette. All gone before their time. Their anniversaries remind me though that if all we focus on is loss, it negates the joy and privilege of having them in our lives in the first place and all the other good things in our lives. As is often said ‘our energy flows where our attention goes’.
It has also been proven that being grateful activates the reward centres in our brain and boosts our bonds with others. Specifically, it activates the hypothalamus the control centre that affects our metabolism, appetite, sleep and reaction to stress. When we get into the habit of focusing on what we are grateful for we literally retrain our pre-frontal cortex to look for positives. So gratitude is essential to our mental and physical health and boosting our resilience when faced with the challenges of life.
Furthermore, when you are presenting or training it is a useful preparation to ‘front-load’ the gratitude. By that I mean, as you prepare to go into the situation feel and express your gratitude (to yourself) for the participation of those who will be there, before you even meet them. Doing this will transform your presence and make building rapport with them even easier!
Maybe getting into the gratitude habit could be the best present of all we could give ourselves and others this Christmas and throughout 2020 !
Thank you for reading this article !!

/by flomaddenco‘Everyday NLP’ now available !
/by flomaddencoIt started as a throwaway remark from me at the end of a skype call, that we should write our own NLP book. Nothing gets past Eleni of course and her reply was “Why not? You write half, I’ll write half!”. And so, we began!
Both of us run ‘intensive’ NLP courses in various locations around the world, where delegates are required to do pre-course reading to prepare for the course, so that they start with a good base knowledge. What better we thought, than to tune into the course tutor and her approach as well?
We began writing in January 2018, and, as we live on opposite sides of the world, there have been numerous Skype calls as well as meeting up in Kuala Lumpur, London, Toulouse, Thessaloniki and nearly Santiago in Chile! Both of us have already written a book on our own – writing with someone else, however, has been a whole different challenge and the book is certainly the better for it.
Often when people encounter NLP it can seem theoretical with unfamiliar language that some may find confusing – yet NLP is practical and every day! So, our approach has been to use our own life experiences and stories to explain the concepts and models of NLP, as they have relevance in every aspect of our everyday life. We also wanted it to look and feel inviting, so the book is in full colour with photographs and illustrations…. and even colour coded ‘signposts’ along the way.
Each chapter has been discussed, (sometimes debated) and agreed by us both. Along the way, we have been thrilled to receive testimonials from among others, Robert Dilts who has been a developer, author and consultant in the field of Neuro-Linguistic Programming since its creation in 1970s. Indeed, we are hugely grateful to all of those who gave us feedback on early drafts and testimonials on the final copy – the book would not have been the same without their input.
Everyday NLP will be available to purchase on Amazon from the second half of September and we would love to have your feedback too!

Megan Steps Out…and Steps Forward !
/by flomaddencoMy NLP Business Practitioner course which I completed in October 2017, allowed me to feel free and explore my creativity. Still not fully embracing the change though, and yet feeling as if something was missing, I went back to the familiar.
When a routine mammogram revealed breast cancer, I had a mastectomy. Somehow feeling inner strength, I realised work was not so important and that I needed to take time to recover and put myself first. My Mum also passed away during this time. When I did return to work, I felt lost and alone – after 18 years of service I felt unsupported, and on top of that, the company changed my role. I didn’t want it, took an agreement and left my ‘familiar’.
I knew it was the right thing, but deep down was still struggling, I found all my NLP work in a drawer and started to read it again…..I remember how much I loved it, the excitement of learning and growing.
The photographs of Florence and the group, the way I had been so happy in those days of the course……now I knew it was time to change.
I enrolled at the local college and did the certificate in counselling, then applied to Nottingham University to do Humanistic Counselling full time and got accepted! No idea how we will manage yet, but I know we will, and I am finally following a dream of 38 years!!
NLP started this journey and was all still there in my head….. just waiting for when I was ready to commit to change.
Thank you, Florence !
Just in Time …. ‘The Intention Impact Conundrum’ Got its Local Launch At Carlisle’s New Airport!
/by flomaddencoMy first book ‘The Intention Impact Conundrum’ which was published in 2018, finally got its local launch at the newly opened Carlisle Airport a few months ago………just ahead of Everyday NLP! Thank you to my long-time friend Maggie Crighton of Outsourced HR and Carol Milnes of CA Events Ltd, for their support in putting the evening together ….. as well as those who came along of course!
Speakers at the event were Paul Martland the General Manager of the airport who was delighted to announce his plans for its future growth. Also speaking was Georgia Cooper a 16-year-old ‘future Prime Minister’ and fan of the book who stunned everyone with her confident and amusing speech – remember that name, you heard it here first!
I am also pleased to say that a client now runs a 2-day in-house course based on the book too!
The book is available on Amazon!!
