Put Your Feet in a Grow Bag of New Learning for 2018 !!

Laura Cadman Chief Executive Officer
Cumbria CVS & NLP Master Practitioner

Last week I found myself presenting to students at the University of Cumbria’s Institute of Leadership and Sustainability. I was so proud to be in the position of sharing my views and debating leadership and working styles that I had to pinch myself and think about how I came to be here!

Those who knew me ten years may have been equally as shocked by my current position, and I’m very proud of my journey.

About 10 years ago I met Florence for the first time on a Personal Effectiveness At Work course. I was 23 and didn’t have much self-esteem or confidence. On that course I received feedback from a colleague that changed my life. A simple comment passed from one human to another switched a lightbulb on in my brain and every step I have taken since can be attributed that moment (although I didn’t realise it at the time).

Since that time I’ve taken every opportunity I could get to further my own development and was delighted to successfully complete my NLP Master Practitioner course early this year (thanks to the help of some fabulous co-delegates).

The last few years have been the most challenging for me both personally and professionally, and I’ve been challenged in ways I wasn’t sure I’d make it through. All my learning has taught me who I am and importantly how to remain true to myself. Through my challenges I’m proud to say I came out with my integrity intact and without compromising on my beliefs, about the potential of others and myself.

I put this down to a positive mindset… people who know me well laugh at how much of an optimist I am, I can always see the silver lining, which is usually learning. So when I encounter poor behavior in others, I learn how not to behave…… when I see bullying, I’m reminded it is my duty to challenge….. when somebody does wrong by me, I learn how to forgive.

Sounds great doesn’t it…. and actually it is. Don’t get me wrong I’m still human, I still hurt, cry, swear and scream but over the years that lasts for less time and I recover quicker. I remember hearing Florence reading The Guest House by Jellaludin Rumi, a moment when I decided to truly welcome each emotion and I’ve continued to do that and gain strength from each encounter.

As I head towards 2018 I’m excited for my new learning and stand with my feet firmly planted in my NLP grow bag and openly await other wonderful opportunities heading my way.

I’m ever grateful to Florence for her support, wisdom and coaching and I can’t wait for my next stage of my journey under her excellent guidance.

As for what’s next for you……. Well you have your own grow bag and I look forward to reading your story ☺
